The ivy covers the utility pole and it becomes a massive plant that cannot figure out its original form. plants embrace the artifacts by turning them into nature. Likewise, the life force of plants leads to the phenomenon of ‘survival’ by adapting to the surrounding environment. It is driven from unique features of plants and causes the mutation of plants. so it has become my interest. This phenomenon forges a new environmental language to explain about the plant’s time that contains elaborate visual narratives. The combination of the natural and the artificial world causes the weird form of plants. And also, it is the result of the knowledge as actual experience and ideological form. mutated creatures near us are poetically growing and building. This change can be re-interpreted by the language of the environment. This work imitates nature by describing the real world through the artwork, that is ‘mimesis’. Functionally, it is a portable and easy assembly design. This work explores the local time. For example, I am progressing a quasi-scientific experiment about how a conifer survives in a subtropical climate physically and conceptually. Totally different characteristics like temperature, light, and even air are combined and cause the creature to have a unique form.  Thus, I started to devise a measure of survival conditions or make equipment for maintaining a pleasant life by applying various surviving strategies. Instrument for survival is designed by considering the individual and general reasons. This implies that survival conditions include not only food, clothing, and shelter but also trivial substances (air, water, wind etc). And also, it is seriously affected by the combination of the situation, atmosphere, and emotions from the surrounding environment. Ultimately, this aims to pursue the dream of prolonging our lives. 

 

담쟁이가 전봇대를 덮어버리고 이내 형체를 알 수 없는 거대한 덩어리의 식물이 되어버린다. 식물은 주변의 인공적인 것들을 포용하여 자연으로 만든다. 이처럼 식물의 강한 생명력이 만들어내는 '생존'이라는 현상은 살고자 주변 환경에 적응하여 자라나는 식물의 독특한 습성에서 비롯한 것으로 작가에게 형태의 변형과 자연물과 인공물 사이의 관계에서 흥미를 불러일으켰다. 이런 현상은 시간이 만들어 낸 정교한 시각적 내러티브로서 새로운 환경의 언어를 구축한다. 뿐만아니라 환경에 적응하여 자연 본연의 모습이 아닌 기묘한 형태의 식물은 자연과 인공적인 세상의 조합으로, 더 나아가서는 실제 경험된 지식에 의한 실체와 관념적 형태로 혼합된 인식의 결과물이다. 따라서 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 이런 돌연변이 생물체는 시적인 구조로 성장하고 건설된다. 작가는 이런 변형을 환경의 언어를 통해 즉 mimesis, 예술 작품을 통해 실제 세상에 대해 묘사하여 자연을 모방한다. 기능적으로는 이동가능하고, 조립이 가능하도록 고안하여 경험적 조각으로 논리적 시간성에 대해 탐구한다. 예를들어 제주도와 같은 아열대 기후에 냉대에서 자라는 침엽수를 생존시키기 위해 물리적이고도 개념적인 방법을 고안하고, 실제 유사 과학 실험을 진행한다. 온도, 빛 심지어 공기 등 모든 이질적인 성질의 것들이 빚어내는 갈등은 엉뚱한 형태의 생명체를 만들어낸다.  이처럼 환경에 민감한 생물과 사물들을 조합하여 생존의 척도를 측정하는 기구를 고안하고, 각종 생존 전략을 적용시켜 더욱 쾌적한 삶을 유지할 수 있는 장치를 만들기 시작한다. 여기서 말하는 생존의 조건은 의식주와 같은 기본적인 요소 뿐 아니라 우리 몸에 필요한 사소한 물질 (공기, 물, 바람 등), 상황, 분위기, 심지어 감정 등이 융합된 복합적인 환경 등이 포함된다. 개인적이며 동시에 일반적인 이유를 반영한 기능을 가진 기구들을 통해 삶의 연장이 이루어 질 것이다.
