People sometimes tend to accept the situation more than others. In this case, trivial conflicts can be a matter of survival even in everyday life. Although people are in the room, full of thousands of items to live, eat, and wear, they can experience the feeling of death and be afraid of emotions from the extreme situation that produce an atmosphere of panic and make people to be lost for words. Outer world, except for the space where people are lying, turns into the wild. People are getting desperate as if their emotions lost direction and they went adrift in the sea. However, in the isolated and blocked situation, it leads us to sense a strong determination to live. At first, I applied various strategies to adjust the surrounding environment in order to sustain my life in the definite shortage of elements for living. From natural and artificial threats, I train and simulate the surviving techniques by setting virtual situations to protect myself. Thus, my project is the process of designing survival kits based on surviving strategies by documenting a visual manual. Every daily life has been described as extreme situations and solutions from experiences to survive are archived visually. Furthermore, I started to make survival equipment. This has a meaning in that it reveals the power to live on against every difficulty in the world. Each device includes certain reasons for survival, and it mainly deals with dignity as a human being beyond the basic human instinct. 

 

가끔 우리는 처한 어떤 일을 남보다 더 크고 어렵게 받아들이는 경우가 있다. 이런 경우, 일상에서 일어나는 아주 사소한 갈등조차 생존의 문제가 될 수있다. 분명 머무는 곳에 물, 먹을 것, 입을 것 등 심지어 각종 기능성 도구들이 가득 차 있지만 생명의 위협을 느끼며 죽음의 공포를 체험하고, 처한 상황에 대한 극단의 감정들은 언어를 잃어버리게 만든다. 누워 있는 공간 밖은 어느새 위험이 도사리는 야생이 되어버리고 마치 무인도나 사막에 표류한 듯 삶이 절박해진다. 그러나 이런 고립되고 차단 된 상황은 오히려 삶에 대한 강한 의지를 가지게 한다. 생존에 필요한 요소들이 부족한 극한 상황 속에서 각종 기술, 전략을 활용하여 주어진 환경에 살아나가며 삶을 지속하고자 한다. 자연적이고 인공적인 위협으로 부터 자신을 보호하기 위해 다양한 전략을 세우고 생존을 위협하는 상황을 모방한 가상의 극한체험을 훈련한다. 극한의 상황으로 묘사되는 하루하루의 일상 속 문제들과 그에 대한 해결책에 대한 기록, 그리고 나아가 살아남기 위한 생존 도구들을 만들어가기 시작한다. 따라서 나의 작업은 생존 전략에 기반한 생존 도구를 고안해가는 과정으로 일종의 시각 매뉴얼을 기록한다. 이는 세상의 모든 난관에 저항하여 살아갈 수 있는 힘에 대한 연구로서 의미를 가진다. 모든 작품은 기능적으로 생존을 위한 나름의 이유를 담고 있으며, 의식주같은 기본적인 인간의 욕구 충족을 넘어선 존엄에 대한 측면을 다룬다.
